“Dr Kat Macey — Senior Clinical PsychologistIt was really good to hear about your much needed service into schools. It is very refreshing to encounter a service that is not tied to diagnostic labels and can be responsive to distress in its different forms. I’m sure we will be able to complement each other’s services and that the young people will have increased wellbeing as a result.
“Stephanie Tyler — Social PrescriberIt is a great, unique service and very good when working with younger patients with an interest in writing and reading.
“Kate Hewitt — Counsellor / BibliotherapistA young person told me today they liked how calm the session is and it is helping them to stay focused.
“Karen Connell — Counsellor / BibliotherapistSome young people have been so proud of their creative writing — ‘Didn’t know I could write that’ — and leave the room feeling 6 feet tall!
“I wanted to thank you for all the work you’ve put into supporting our young people this year. You have brought peace and clarity to so many of them and their lives are that bit better because of you.
“Bibliotherapist, ZunToldI will sometimes read to a young person as part of the session. Reading aloud in the room has been shown to help emotional regulation. One young person I worked with would come into the counselling room in a state of agitation. Reading an extract from A Cake for the Gestapo calmed him and got him into a state where we could relax and work together. He was a young person affected by gun crime in his family – and as I read parts to him, he would make characters or objects from the story and then we would talk about them.
“Bibliotherapist, ZunToldEvolution covers so much, and opens up conversations about parents arguing, going to school full of worries, finding new ways of thinking around other people’s choices/decisions, and parents separating. Many YP talk about arguing at home or parents separating, so this book validates that and they open up. I have just started this book with a boy who wears makeup. We haven’t got to that part in the book about Dan’s dad wearing makeup yet, but the young person said he is enjoying the book and I think he will find that part of the book useful to him.
“Bibliotherapist, ZunToldI used Searching for the Remarkable in Things with a young person recently. More as a suggestion of a book to read. She said she related to the main-character Mary immensely as she was in a period of time of feeling trapped too. She had lived in the UK for a few years and was still trying to adjust. She had a strong connection to home (Nigeria) but felt adrift from her family due to the move. All in all, she was finding it a comforting read as she could see herself in the story. Which is invaluable really isn’t it.
“Bibliotherapist, ZunToldTales of the Emotosphere is a wonderfully moreish read. The stunning artwork transports you to a galaxy full of fun and adventure. Puck, in all of his hilarious, slobbery, flatulating goodness is by far my favourite character. The 7 cosmic powers are a genius concept for children, young people and adults still in touch with their inner child! It equips readers with vital coping strategies, emotional regulation and how to live out your values in a creative and accessible way. I will definitely be using this wonderful book in the counselling room to help clients unlock their own treasure and tap into their 7 cosmic powers!
